Dance of Moors and Christians

This is a very popular dance which exists in many different forms in most of Mexico. Battles between Christians and Moors represent, in different versions, the expulsion of the Moors from Spain, the Crusades, the repulsion of the Moors by Charlemagne and the conquest of Mexico. Costumes are ornate and colorful. Masks of Moors are dark-skinned and sometimes with fierce expressions; those of Christians often are fair and with blue eyes.
