St. James (Santiago) in dance of Christians and Moors

St. James captured the imagination of the natives as a combination man-horse, a new form of divinity. The dancer shown carries, attached at the waist, the figure of a horse (on the left in the photograph) and a banner with the cross. The Moor (on the right) has a dark-skinned mask and a large hat with elaborate flower decorations.
