James (Santiago) in dance of Christians and Moors
St.
James captured the imagination of the natives as a combination
man-horse, a new form of divinity. The dancer shown carries, attached
at the waist, the figure of a horse (on the left in the
photograph) and a banner with the cross. The Moor (on the right) has a
dark-skinned mask and a large hat with elaborate flower
decorations.
