Patron
of victory in battle, the apostle St. James (Santiago) helped
Christians defeat and expulse the Moors from Spain and was
invoked during the conquest of Mexico, where it is said that
he stopped the sun to aid the Spaniards. The Indians,
converted to Christianity, adopted St. James as the most
popular saint.
