Tadeusz Kacalak worked as a barber and taught himself to carve wood figures. Eventually he devoted his time entirely to producing and collecting folk art. He carves colorful figures in regional Polish costumes. Much of his work represents biblical themes, the Virgin Mary, Saints and legends. Over the years he became widely recognized as a folk artist. He has won many prizes and his carvings are in private and museum collections in many places. Tadeusz comes to the Santa Fe Golk Art Market every year and works in the Folk Art of Poland store in downtown Santa Fe.
